All of our instruments are thoroughly inspected, tested, professionally set up, and carefully packed for shipment. And all instruments are sold with our 72 hour satisfaction guarantee.

We encourage you to call us for the best price possible. We routinely have demos, closeouts, blemishes, and used instruments available for purchase. And if you happen to find a lower price please let us know.

And please keep in mind that it’s difficult comparing various instruments on the Internet. Since many of our guitars come standard with upgraded woods and tone controls shopping by price alone won’t tell the whole story.

Product Description

Luthier Dick Knight,(born 1907 -1996) handcrafted instruments in England during the 70s and 80s. Dick was a well respected British guitar maker and examples of his work are collected worldwide. He specialized in Archtop guitar construction notably the imperial model. Knight began building his first guitar is in the 30s, and he became more prominent in the 70s and 80s and featured such clients as David Gilmour, Paul McCartney, Peter Townsend, and Mike Rutherford among others. During Dicks formative years in the 30s he work for a motor vehicle manufacturer. After work Knight would construct wood items at home, and lost the tip of his fingers in an accident. As the accident prevented him from playing guitar he turned to making instruments. At the outbreak of World War II Knight met Ben and Lou Davis (the owners of Selmer music shop in London) , as well as Joe Van Straten (Selmer shop manager ) Who then suggested that the two work on producing a quality English Archtops. Selmer’s also asked Knight to produce some guitars. When Knights wife became ill he left his work at Selmers to produce a number of instruments at home under his own logo the  logo “Knight”. All his guitars were produced with the same high degree of quality. When Dick hand carved his tops he actually left enough wood to serve as the internal bracing of the top which created a very warm tone with great clarity.  Nothing manufactured later in Engkand equaled this quality of his guitars. His son-in-law,Gordon tried to produce production Archtops under the Knight logo which could not compete in quality with the handmade ones that Dick had produced. Please ask about other Knight Archtop in stock in our private collection.
