Best Price Guarantee

Our goal at Guitars ‘n Jazz is to find you the best possible instrument that not only matches your personal requirements and play-style, but is also a guitar that you enjoy playing and look forward to picking up.

We strive to price our instruments as competitively as possible in order to give our customers the best possible value for their dollar. And as a guitarist myself I would never sell an instrument that didn’t live up to my own high standards and expectations.

All of our instruments are thoroughly inspected, tested, professionally set up, and carefully packed for shipment. And all instruments are sold with our 72 hour satisfaction guarantee.

We encourage you to call us for the best price possible. We routinely have demos, closeouts, blemishes, and used instruments available for purchase. And if you happen to find a lower price please let us know.

And please keep in mind that it’s difficult comparing various instruments on the Internet. Since many of our guitars come standard with upgraded woods and tone controls shopping by price alone won’t tell the whole story.

Since our inventory changes so frequently it’s best to call us to find all of your available options. With over 500 archtops in stock you can be assured that we have unbelievable guitars to fit any budget.

Product Description

This  Kinnard archtop  is in excellent condition and combines the open bass response and sustain of a dreadnoughts, with the smoother amplified voice of a carved archtop. The soundboard of the Hicks model is bowed slightly by the bracing, creating a gentle, resonant arch in the top. This venerable technique tension bracing  has been employed by builders from Maccaferri to the Larsen Brothers, to increase the carrying power of the voice. The 17″ body is roughly the size of a Gibson J-200, but with an added cutaway. With its lightweight construction and tapered dreadnought style depth, this has wide range of acoustic improvisation, from swing to gypsy jazz to the far left wing of newgrass,  and beyond. The tone is as unique as the design, with a Maccaferri/Selmer type attack in the treble, combined with a distinctly more open and powerful bass register than your typical gypsy guitar .

Plugged in, the Hicks really shines, producing a velvety archtop-type voice, with the added clarity and sustain of a high quality flat top, equally at home with fingers or a pick. The suspended ebony pickguard with matching control knobs supports a Kent Armstrong Handwound Floating Single Coil pickup, which amplifies with a clarity and detail enhanced by its coil tapped design, allowing the player to choose between a traditional DeArmond style tone, or a more saturated P-90 voicing.  Solid bookmatched Sitka spruce top; solid AAAA bubble maple back and sides; solid maple neck with centerstripe; solid ebony fingerboard, solid ebony tailpiece, pickguard, truss rod cover and headstock veneer; triple bound body, neck, and  cat’s eye sound holes.

Only a dozen or so of these remarkable instruments ever left the bench during their brief production run, making them one of the rarest of contemporary luthier built acoustic models.
