Product Description
One of the most incredible custom guitars ever made!! Only 64 of the original M-80s were made between 1980 when it was introduced and 1984 when production ceased at the Arcata, California factory, which was destroyed by fire in 1988. Original 1980 MSRP was over $5000. These are incredible guitars. Double Venetian cutaway semi-hollow body with 2 f-holes Carved spruce top, KOA back & sides;Top and back hand carved out of 1 inch solid spruce and Solid KOA blocks; Heavily bracing under the top to anchor the stop tailpiece, and thickly carved back center, but completely hollow. Bound body front and back w/ multi-ply Black/white binding. Heavy internal bracing partially carved from mahogany back with heavy bracing under top which stop tailpiece is anchored. Believe it or not, if you shine a light in one f hole, you will see the light in the other f hole. This is actually a hollowbody that tries to emulate the tone and anti feedback characteristics of a semi hollow, but with more chordal note separation than most 335 guitars. The top and backs are totally carved solid woods. The spruce top and top bracing is actually part of the carved top that was left after carving the top. The beautiful solid mahogany back is carved with a thick center in a designs of a mirror image of the top but is completely separated from the top, joined only at the rims and the neck and tail block. Sperzel tuners, original pickups, hardly any fret wear, and a great player. Great fat warm tone with low action and great accessibility to the entire fretboard with a 25 1/2″ scale and a full 24 frets, and 1.73″ at nut which must have been a custom order. Sophisticated Alembic type fusion and jazz sounds. I liken it to a Stanley Clarke sound in a guitar.
