Product Description
This Guild A500 Jazz Guitar #21978 was built in the New York Guild factory in 1963, fully carved perfectly graduated spruce top that gives that chunky highly sought tone, complimented w/a super figured maple neck back & sides, engraved Harp Tailpiece, w/custom Tortoise bound pickguard and 2 Humbucker pickups made in Japan during the Golden Era. Guild A 500 are one of the finest acoustic archtops ever made, highly regarded for their low action and chucky tone. Virtually impossible to fine, it is excellent structural condition. with all the binding fully intact. Two humbuckers were added with all the bracing fully intact ( as shown in one of the pics). Only once before have we seen pickup installation so well done leaving the bracing intact, and it was on an D’Angelico frilly carved ExCel that was ordered with a humbucker pickup in 1954 modeled after Chuck Wayne”s D’Angelico. The pickup installation in the D’Angelico original build and this Guild are absolutely identical, and the tone of this Guild A500 rivals that of the D’Angelico. This A500 has a beautifully flamed C shape comfortable neck with extremely low action, fully refretted, that I can only describe as “rock Maple”with a nut width of 1.70″ and 2.06″ at the 12th fret with string spacing at the bridge of 52.76” which is wider than mostly all Guild A500 archtops.
