Guilds lineup began with the A500, intoduced in 1956, the first year of the A 500 model. Shortly afterwards, this model became the prototype for the Guild Johnny Smith, and the Artist Award which is based on the A 500, and also the prototype for the George Barnes Lectric Guitar, which evolved into e a combination of the A500 and the Artist Award with 2 set humbucker that never touched the top of the guitar. The A 500 has more acoustic tone than the Artist Award and is much lighter in weight. Great jazz guitar due to it’s clarity and chordal note separation, great acoustic tone and projection which lends itself to swing tunes, and very chunky clean comping tones .
